Polyacrylamide (PAM for short) is a linear high-molecular polymer with excellent flocculation performance and is widely used in water treatment, oil extraction, papermaking, textile, mining and metallurgy and other fields. According to the ionic characteristics, they can be classified into three major categories: nonionic type, anionic type and cationic type.
Ii. Product Dissolution Method
1.Dissolution preparation
Dissolve it with clean tap water or clear water. Avoid using water with high salinity or high hardness
The dissolution temperature should be controlled between 10 and 40 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is too high, it will cause the molecular chains to break
Dissolution containers should avoid iron ones. It is recommended to use plastic, stainless steel or enamel containers
2.Dissolution steps
Slowly and evenly sprinkle PAM into the stirred water at a concentration ratio of 0.1%-0.3%
The stirring speed should be controlled at 60 to 200 revolutions per minute to avoid high-speed shearing that may damage the molecular chains
Stir continuously for 40 to 60 minutes until it is completely dissolved, and the solution becomes uniform and transparent or slightly turbid
The effect is better after being left to stand and mature for 1 to 2 hours
Iii. Application Fields and Usage Methods
1.Sewage treatment
Municipal sewage: Anionic PAM is usually used, with a dosage of 0.5-5ppm
Industrial wastewater: Select the type of ions based on water quality. Before addition, conduct a small-scale test to determine the optimal model and dosage
Sludge dewatering: Cationic PAM is commonly used, with a dosage of 0.1%-0.3%(by weight of dry sludge).
2.Drinking water treatment
Food-grade PAM must be used, with residual monomer content ≤0.05%
The dosage is controlled at 0.1-1.0ppm
It needs to be used in combination with other water purifiers
3.Oil extraction
Oil displacement agent: Use ultra-high molecular weight partially hydrolyzed PAM, with a concentration of 500-3000 PPM
Drilling fluid additive: Dosage 0.1%-0.5%
4.Papermaking industry
Enhancer: Dosage 0.1%-0.3%(for absolute dry slurry)
Retention and filtration aid: The effect is better when used in combination with bentonite
Iv. Precautions for Use
Preparation concentration: The general usage concentration is 0.1%-0.5%, and it should be adjusted according to the application field
Dissolution time: Ensure full dissolution. PAM that is not completely dissolved will affect the application effect
Storage conditions: Dry powder should be stored in a cool and dry place to avoid moisture absorption and caking. The solution should be prepared and used immediately, and should not be stored for more than 48 hours
Dosage sequence: When used in combination with other chemicals, inorganic flocculants are generally added first, followed by PAM
Safety precautions: Wear protective gloves and masks during operation to avoid direct skin contact and inhalation of dust
Environmentally friendly: After use, the packaging materials should be properly disposed of to avoid polluting the environment
V. Common Problems and Solutions
Slow dissolution rate: The water temperature can be appropriately increased (not exceeding 50℃) or the stirring time can be extended
Decrease in solution viscosity: Check if a metal container is used or if the stirring speed is too high
Poor flocculation effect: Reselect the appropriate ion type of PAM or adjust the dosage
Insoluble matter appears: It may be due to incomplete dissolution or water quality issues. It is recommended to filter before use
